Miles for Anne-Ellen
Miles for Anne-Ellen
Story
Dear Friends,
We hope this message finds you well. Today, we want to share something close to our hearts. As many of you know, bowel cancer has touched our lives deeply, claiming the lives of beautiful souls we loved dearly, Anne Ellen and Nanna Shirl. We believe it’s time to honor their legacy and take action.
This month marks 1 month, since we lost our beloved Anne-Ellen. Barely into her 40s, Anne-Ellen was given a devastating diagnosis of terminal Bowel cancer. We lost her two and a half years later. Anne-Ellen leaves behind her loving husband Mark and two young children. Anne-Ellen was the most kind hearted, giving person. She was completely selfless and such an amazing mother.
Our loving Nanna Shirls was diagnosed at 70, she like Anne-Ellen received the diagnosis too late. After undergoing gruelling treatment, the sweetest lady we have ever known also lost her life to bowel cancer.
So it is in their memory and so that no other family is ripped apart by the grief of losing a loved one too soon, that we have started this fundraiser.
Every week, bowel cancer claims the lives of 101 Australians—over 5,276 lives each year. This disease is one of the most treatable types of cancer when detected early, making awareness and early detection crucial. It’s alarming to know that 280 Australians will be diagnosed with bowel cancer this week alone, totalling 14,534 new cases annually.
Cancer, in general, affects 1 in 2 people in their lifetime, a staggering statistic that reminds us of the importance of vigilance and regular check-ups. The risk of bowel cancer increases significantly with age, but it can affect anyone, regardless of their background or age.
In memory of those we’ve lost and in support of those still fighting, we will be running to raise funds for bowel cancer research and awareness. We invite you to join us in this mission. Please consider scheduling a colonoscopy and encouraging your loved ones to do the same. Early detection can save lives, and together, we can make a difference.
Thank you for your support as we honor Anne Ellen’s legacy and strive to raise awareness about this deadly disease. Let’s come together to fight bowel cancer and ensure that others don’t have to face the same heartache.
So if you run, please post, or share it on this link. Awareness is the difference we are striving to make!!
Alternatively you can support our efforts by making a secure online donation and by posting a message of support.
Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to my charity of choice. Thanks so much for your support!
